Ring of Fire

Ring of Fire

I’m not going to bluff and pretend I have the foggiest idea what this is.

Ring of Fire is one of those incomprehensible, artsy shorts. This one’s animated, in a surreal style. There’s no dialogue, and only a little narration, which clarifies nothing.

There are seemingly two main characters, apparently meant to suggest cowboys. I don’t know where they’re going, what they’re doing, or why. Wherever they are seems to have lots of things that look sort of like female body parts and naked women, but in kind of a fancy-schmancy, modern art, Salvador Dali sort of way—you know, both breasts on the same side and such.

Maybe it’s supposed to represent the hallucinogenic drug trip of someone with sex on his mind (and who likes cowboy movies?).

I’m sure there are plenty of people who would proclaim Ring of Fire brilliant and highly entertaining. As far as I’m concerned, anything brilliant about it went miles over my head.
