The Australian short film Spider is only nine minutes long, and if anything that’s longer than it needs to be for such a very simple story of a practical joke gone terribly wrong.
There are two moments of sudden shock or violence. The first definitely works—my heart skipped a beat there. The second doesn’t work as well. It’s a lot more Three Stooges-ish, seemingly there solely for laughs.
Spider is nothing deep or important, but it’s well put together and entertaining enough to be worth the brief time investment it takes to watch it.
